Sport Premium

Since 2013 the government has provided additional funding, called the PE and Sport Premium, to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but have been given the freedom to choose how they do this.

At Danesgate we have used the PE sports premium money to develop and enhance the experiences of primary pupils in Physical Education. We have decided to purchase, upgrade and replenish our stocks of equipment for the current and future generations of Danesgate pupils. We hope to enhance their experiences of a range of activities and games by doing this.

It is our goal to encourage all our students to engage in at least 30 minutes of physical activity per day as recommended in the chief medical officer’s guidelines. We hope to do this by raising the profile of PE, with improvements to staff kit and school buildings used in the teaching and delivery of physical activity. We want to make pupils proud to represent Danesgate and to participate in our PE program. In order to increase the confidence, knowledge and skills of our PE staff we have used, and will continue to use, a small portion of the premium money to engage staff in high quality training courses. This has allowed staff to refresh and experience new skills and opportunities which have then been disseminated to our students; through engaging, fun and creative PE lessons. Some of the money has also been allocated to facilitating the participation of our primary students in sporting fixtures and competitive tournaments. These have been a huge success and staff, students and parents/carers have all benefited hugely from the watching and participating in games against other schools.
