Secondary Danesgate Outreach Support

Secondary Outreach was established in 2018. It was designed to be an early intervention for young people who are at risk of permanent exclusion from Secondary schools across the city.

Pupils are allocated via the Learning Support Hub, following a referral from their school.    The Danesgate Outreach worker (Jenny Long) identifies their need and then delivers short term intervention in school. This is usually on a 1:1 basis.  It could include completing sessions on:

  • Anger management
  • School based anxiety
  • Developing resilience for success in school
  • Learning to managing a diagnosed Special Educational Need.

The Danesgate Outreach worker will also liaise with school staff and leaders to develop strategies for supporting the young person.

Alongside this, Secondary Outreach will also work alongside the young person and gather their voice and will advocate for the young person and ensure they receive the best support available. The Danesgate Outreach worker will work with external agencies and signpost young people and families if they are in need of additional help.
