We are delighted to announce that Danesgate Community school has been recognised for its work in supporting new teachers into the provision and the support that we have offered throughout the academic year 2024-2025 and been given the ECF (Early Career Framework) Award.
Why we are celebrating this achievement
Providing regular coaching for teachers new to the profession is a fantastic way to invest in them and in pupils’ outcomes. Research shows the improved pupil outcomes come from better teaching practice, in particular, research by Slater et al (2011) into pupil outcomes in England suggests that highly effective rather than average teaching is likely to raise pupils’ attainment by 10%. Better teaching practice is developed through high quality professional development. For example, new teachers who received comprehensive mentoring achieved pupil outcomes that were as good as effective more experienced teachers (Villar and Strong, 2007). High quality mentoring can also lead to higher retention in the profession through greater confidence and enjoyment levels of teachers throughout their first two years of teaching.
Special mention goes to Chris Smith our ECT coordinator for all his hard work in supporting our teachers and teachers across the city.
