Child Development

The OCR Level 2 Cambridge National in Child Development will inspire and equip students with independence and confidence in using skills that are relevant to the childcare sector and more
widely. It covers all aspects of child development, from conception to five years, as well as providing safe and nurturing environments. At Danesgate, we deliver a Child development qualification that:

  • Promotes enjoyment of learning through practical activity, explorations and discussion.
  • Encourages students to become increasingly independent in their research and learning.
  • Develops confidence and competence with computer skills, creating and delivering powerpoint presentations to teachers and peers.
  • Develops an understanding of the development of a child Physically, Intellectually and Socially as well as understanding the importance of a safe environment and the nutritional needs of a child.
  • Develops an understanding of the health and well-being required to help a child develop.

How you will be assessed
For this qualification, students must achieve three units: one externally assessed and two Non- Examined Assessment (NEA) units:

  • R057 Health and well-being for child development (Examined unit)
  • R058 Create a safe environment and understand the nutritional needs of children from birth to five years (non-examined unit)
  • R059 Understand the development of a child from one to five years (non-examined unit)

Students will cover one NEA in Year 1 of the course and the second NEA plus the externally assessed unit (written paper) in the second year of the course.

The three units enable the students to achieve a GCSE equivalent in this subject.
