Your Healthy Schools Bronze Award

The North Yorkshire & York Healthy Schools Award is a school improvement and recognition programme that helps schools demonstrate good practice in health and wellbeing. Danesgate has been awarded the bronze award in recognition for: Emotional Health & Wellbeing – developing a whole-school approach to mental health.

As a school we have demonstrated that we met the Emotional Health & Wellbeing criteria and provided evidence of our work in that area. Supporting pupils’ social, emotional and mental health is a core part of the school’s mission and curriculum.

The evidence we provided covered things such as:

  • Mental health and wellbeing policies.
  • Pastoral support systems.
  • Pupil voice activities.
  • Staff training on wellbeing.
  • Mental health awareness initiatives.
  • Support for pupils’ emotional resilience and wellbeing.

Danesgate demonstrated that it has a structured, whole-school approach to supporting pupils’ emotional health and wellbeing, which aligns closely with the school’s SEMH specialism, including its nurturing environment, emotional literacy curriculum, wellbeing support, self-regulation work, PSHE provision and focus on helping pupils develop resilience and positive mental health.

Danesgate will continue to improve and develop our approach to supporting our pupils with good health and wellbeing to ensure we strive and achieve the requirements for the silver and gold standard.
