The hot weather continues and it is forecast to get warmer as we progress into the back end of this week. We are reviewing the care and wellbeing of pupils and staff daily as temperatures rise.
Your Child’s KeyWorker should have been in touch and communicated with you regards the adjustment and considerations we are making as temperature warnings across the UK are in place. We hope this gives you reassurance that your child is safe and are we are closely monitoring temperatures while they are in school. The following considerations need to be made:
- They come to school with water bottles that have been frozen or chilled. We will also provide water throughout the day and when required.
- We don’t have a uniform, but cool clothing that is appropriate for school should be worn- no strappy or low cut tops and midriffs showing please!
- Sun cream, hats and portable fans can be used/brought into school
- If classrooms do start to feel too hot, we will move pupils to cooler parts of the school
- We don’t have large classes/numbers of pupils crammed into rooms- most rooms in the school are cool, in shade and can be ventilated. Those that are starting to feel too hot we will relocate pupils.
- We have asked teaching staff to speak with Senior leaders immediately if they feel temperatures in their classroom are getting to much for pupils and we will immediately look for alternatives.
- Ice lollies will be available at social times to help pupils to stay cool.
- Unlike most schools, we do finish at 2:30… a time when temperatures peak in the day- but we will consider a slightly earlier finish of 1:00/1:20 if the heat becomes too much in the latter part of this week.
If you have any worries or concerns regards the heat and your child attending school over the next few days, please speak with your child’s KeyWorker or Provision Lead.
Take care of yourselves in this heatwave, kind regards
Chris Nichols
