Year 11 Student Ryan has worked really hard on this coffee table – it is part of his GCSE Product Design coursework. Features include a complex single piece steel frame, bubinga (tropical hardwood) edging and a top formed of wooden discs made from timber found around the school site. The size of the table was determined by the piece of thick safety glass that forms the top. Ryan wanted to create a design that had both a natural and an industrial feel at the same time – no mean feat! Perhaps the most challenging part was the fabrication of the frame – Ryan learnt new metalworking skills to do this and really did develop his welding ability to a high standard.
